Apart from the obvious element of heating the home, we have put together a list of ways to visually bring warmth into your home this winter.
Layers, layers, layers
The best way to bring comfort into your home when it's cold is through building layers of rugs, throws and cushions. In winter more is more and we love it!
Colours
Warm colours like burnt orange paired with navy blue or olive green over a base of ivory and greige. Tan leather and contrasting brass metals are a lovely way to bring in that sense of warmth in furniture pieces or more permanent fixtures. We love love love the Momo Belgravia Solid Brass collection from Momo Handles - such beautiful "jewellery" to finish off your joinery.
Lighting
As winter days are shorter and generally darker, look at this as an opportunity to introduce soft and moody lighting. Forget the downlights - utilize your feature pendant lights, floor and table lamps to create a cozy feel.
Scent
Candles with scents of cinnamon, orange, vetiver or cedar. Try out these - some of our favourites: https://www.mecca.com.au/boy-smells/cedar-stack-candle/I-038712.html?, https://www.flowermerchants.com.au/product/nz-aromatherapy-candles/?, or any of the beautiful Aesop aromatique candles: https://www.aesop.com/au/r/aromatique-candles/.
Textures
Rich and thicker fabrics are welcomed during the colder months. Silks, velvets, leather, cowhide, wool rugs.
Highlight the winter features
If you have a fireplace we like to bring attention and style around these key elements. Place a pile of firewood in a basket proudly on display and re-position two comfortable armchairs and a side table nearby the fire. This will encourage the use of this area in your home. Fire on, red wine in hand and a good book - yes please!
Hosting a dinner party?
Nothing quite does it like a glass of red wine, a slow cooked stew with fresh bread, followed by a homemade apple pie. Style the table up with a tablecloth, a relaxed runner of fabric, candles and fresh cut greenery from the garden. When it comes to dinnerware, we love using charger plates to layer your dinner plate and bowl styled with a linen napkin on top.
