There is nothing better than coming home after a long day and setting some time aside to soak in the tub. Water has such a powerful physiological effect on our bodies, and what better way than to maximise this by transforming your bathroom into a spa that you can enjoy any time you wish! In this blog we'll go through some changes you can make - big or small - to your bathroom to create a relaxing atmosphere.
Sometimes the simplest changes can make big impacts, so firstly let's start small...
Small Changes
Small additions like candles or oil diffusers are a lovely way to add to the overall ambience of a spa-at-home vibe.
Bringing the outdoors in through the form of greenery will not only help bring in colour, but also helps purify the air.
Incorporating some decorative elements like a timber stool beside a bath, for example, adds a sense of luxury to the space. A timber bath caddy will also do a nice job if you don't have space for a side table beside the bath.
Pick the right towel for the mood you want to set. Citta have a great range of towels, as does Aura Home .
If you're looking to renovate, or starting from scratch with a new build, then here are some things to consider to create a luxurious spa-like bathroom.
Free-Standing Bath
Nothing says "spa" like a free-standing bath - the bigger the better, we say!
Tile Height
Depending on your ceiling height, having your tiles laid to the ceiling is ideal. This creates a seamless look, is also extremely functional and easy to clean, and - for the cherry on top - it can help make a small space look larger.
If budget doesn't allow for a fully-tiled bathroom, then look to a half-height (normally around 2100mm) and have it consistently at this height all the way around. If you're in a character home you can look to having VJ panelling above the tile line for an extra luxe look.
Finishes
Wall lights always add an extra luxurious look and are a fantastic way to introduce mood lighting into the bathroom (perfect for a soak in the tub!).
When it comes to tapware, we love nothing more than a brushed brass or brushed nickel for their soft and muted looks. This being said, it does come with a higher price tag normally, so if you're renovating on a budget then just opt for a chrome.
We love using stone for a really luxe look, so if budget allows look to using stone for your vanity (instead of a laminate) for an extra luxe look. There are plenty of suppliers that offer a range of price points, so it's well worth looking into even if you are on a tighter budget!
