Ways to Bring The Outdoors In At Home This Summer

Indoor/outdoor living is synonymous with Australian lifestyle so it's no wonder that this is something we see within architecture and interior design. Today we'll lay out some easy steps for you to help bring the outdoors in this summer at home.

Decorating With Plants

Indoor plants are a great way to bring the outdoors in (and also improve air quality, mental health and help with allergies and sleep!). Some of our favourites are the peace lily, philodendron, fiddle leaf fig (a classic!) and lavender (for sleep).

Natural Light

A fresh, sunny and bright home screams summer. If you have harsh sun beaming through your windows/doors, consider some soft light filtering sheers as to not block out all of the light. Get in touch with our friends at Blindo who will help set you up with gorgeous window furnishings.

Using Colour For summer-inspired interiors, we love going with muted greens or blues - think sage, olive, seafoam or duck-egg blues (to name a few). Mixing these accent colours in things like decorative cushions and throws, with a more neutral base offers a timeless look and gives you the opportunity to swap these out in different seasons (for example, swapping them out for warmer tones during winter). With this being said, however, try and draw out colours displayed in your artwork for a cohesive look.

Materials

Bringing the outdoors in can be done in the means of materials. Timber furniture is a great way to introduce a warm natural material to your home, same goes for stone and rattan. Another element is through organic textures in your soft furnishings (cushions, throws etc.) - we love soft linens to create that relaxed-luxury vibe that goes hand-in-hand with Australian living.

Art

Literally, you can have artwork of the outdoors. From photographic artwork, through to landscapes and slightly more abstract versions - it is a beautiful way of setting the scene and mood to your home.

The Outdoor Living Room

Nothing says "Australian living" more than a comfortable outdoor/alfresco living room space. Layer it the same way you would your indoors: with plush cushions, an outdoor rug, gorgeous lighting (wall lights or pendants depending on the space) and decorative accessories!
